Community Involvement.
WCKindy fosters a sense of community through creating and maintaining positive relationships with local services within the community.
We understand community is paramount in fostering children’s sense of belonging and security, unique identity, and active participation in the world around them.
The Great Book Swap.
The Great book swap is to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) to provide books and learning resources to children living in remote communities across Australia. The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for a gold coin donation.
The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, and raise funds for a great cause.
WCKindy has registered to donate and have been placed in the Wamparla House.
Community Garden.
WCKindy established a community vegetable garden where children and families grow native Australian plants, vegetables and herbs. All families and community members are encouraged to plant and take fresh produce from the garden.
Street Library.
The WCKindy Street Library is located at the front of the Kindergarten and was created so that members of the community can borrow a book to read or leave a book for someone else to enjoy. The street library has been a success among the children, families, residence of the street, and other members of the community passing by.
Koala Adoption.
To assist in the recovery and future of Australian wildlife following the devastating 2019-20 bushfires, Wollongong Cottage Kindergarten has adopted a Koala. The adoption supports the restoration of Koala habitat and plays a significant role in ensuring adequate wildlife carers and medical facilities are maintained for Koalas in Australia.
Local Farmer Markets.
The children attend local Farmer Markets to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables for the Kindergarten. They also discuss the harvesting process with the farmers and educators, and gain a deeper understanding of where their food comes from.
Charity Involvement.
Wollongong Cottage Kindergarten actively engages in charity drives each year such as Pyjama Week, Red Nose Day, The World’s Greatest Shave, Genes for Jeans Day, and Superhero Week to raise money and help create change in our community.

Incursions & Excursions.
The children engage with the community by going on excursions to local businesses, libraries, and parks. Incursions also occur on a frequent basis where individuals from the community attend the centre to visit the children and conduct an educational activity (e.g. Dental checkup, Tiny Tins recycling, STEPS vision screening energetic minds child protection show ect)
